Snow Emergency Regulations

In the event of a major snowstorm, the Mayor may declare a snow emergency. All non-essential vehicles are not permitted on city streets during a snow emergency. All snow emergency routes in the City of Yonkers are posted with red and white signs. Cars must be moved immediately. Failure to move your car will result in the vehicle being towed. The owner will be responsible for a towing fee in addition to being issued a summons. After the snow emergency route has been plowed, vehicles may again be parked.

Tune in to WFAS 1230 AM Radio / WFAS 103.9 FM Radio and/or Cablevision, Channel 12 for announcements concerning the declaration of a snow emergency.

 

Parking During a Snow Emergency

During snow emergencies, the City of Yonkers has arranged for free, temporary parking in Parking Authority garages and lots (at metered spaces only), lots in select City parks and lots at schools 13, 16, 21 and 23, which are along snow emergency routes. Cars must be removed from school lots immediately following snow removal. The following lots are NOT available during snow emergencies: Crescent Lot, Highland Lot, Lawrence Lot, Radford Lot, Rockledge Lot. Any vehicle parked in these lots during a snow emergency will be ticketed.
