What is the Yonkers Parking Authority?
The Yonkers Parking Authority was established in 1964 as a non-profit public-benefit corporation. The mission of the Parking Authority is to provide the public with safe, clean, and accessible parking facilities throughout the City of Yonkers. As a public authority, the Parking Authority does not receive taxpayer dollars to maintain its parking programs. Rather it earns its revenue by operating and managing the municipal parking facilities and on street parking meters. Revenue realized from these efforts are rolled back into the operating budget to offset its expenses which include, but are not limited to, maintenance, equipment, permit sales, meter repair, and employee salaries.

Parking Improvements
There are 40 parking facilities and over 3,000 on-street, single-space, parking meters to enhance the flow of traffic. State-of-the art technology is one of the tools utilized to ensure that parking within Authority facilities is a pleasant and safe experience thereby enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visitors alike. The Yonkers Parking Authority was the first to implement the free 10-minute feature on single space parking meters as a convenience to parkers on a quick errand. Moreover, the Authority has installed multi-space meters that accept currency bills and credit cards at the Larkin Plaza commuter facility near the Yonkers Railroad Station.

The men and women of the Authority are proud of their efforts to be part of the progressive spirit that makes up the City of Yonkers. As an Authority employee history buff has noted, "Yonkers was once called the Pearl of the Hudson and will undoubtedly regain its title once again."

The cameras utilize Perceptrak software by Cernium of St. Louis, MO, that recognizes 16 distinct behavior patterns. There are various cameras currently in place in the downtown area. At a March 10th 2007 press conference at the Buena Vista Parking Garage, Yonkers Mayor Philip A. Amicone commended the cooperative initiative between the Yonkers Downtown/ Waterfront BID, the City of Yonkers Offices of Downtown Waterfront Development and Community Development, the Yonkers Police Department, and the YPA.
